TV's next big experiment: 'choose your own adventure'

Viewers vote on the actions of the protagonist -- leading to one of seven endings -- using a smartphone app while the movie keeps rolling seamlessly for between 70 and 90 minutes.

"This type of content has not really been possible on a broad scale until now," Glenn Hower, a senior digital media analyst with research firm Parks Associates, told AFP.

'Skinny bundles' step up challenge to US Big Cable

Skinny offerings are aimed at young viewers and "cord cutters" loath to pay $100 or more to be force-fed hundreds of channels in hefty bundles and accustomed to streaming shows they want, when they desire.

A Parks Associates survey last month found 20 percent of American consumers dissatisfied with their pay TV service, leaving the market ripe for change.

Will TV Networks Cripple Streaming Sites? Time Warner Could Delay Key Shows From Hulu And Other Services

The changes are especially noticeable at Hulu, which is owned by parents of the very television networks — Fox, ABC and NBC — threatened by changes in the way we watch TV.

Hulu has set itself apart by offering new TV episodes faster than its rivals; making viewers wait longer could limit its appeal.
