Homematic IP announced as sponsor for CONNECTIONS™ Summit

11th-annual conference examines innovative smart home platforms expanding the IoT

Parks Associates today announced that Homematic IP is sponsoring the networking reception at CONNECTIONS™ Summit at CES on January 5, which will start after a full day with six executive sessions on the smart home, IoT, and connected entertainment examining trends for connected consumers and opportunities for companies to build new revenues and innovative business models. The one-day conference concludes with the networking reception sponsored by Homematic IP at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 5.

Homematic is a leading smart home platform with more than 80 devices and open communication interfaces. Homematic IP, the next generation of Homematic, is an open platform based on the Internet standard IPv6 and fully compatible with the devices of the Homematic family.

“Parks Associates research estimates there will be nearly seven million new Western European households with a smart home controller in 2016,” said Tom Kerber, Director, IoT Strategy, Parks Associates. “While much of this growth comes from embedded controllers in smart TVs, home control solutions are driving growth in multiple IoT markets, with successful product lines like Homematic starting to move the market beyond early adopters. Homematic has tapped into consumer demand for smart home solutions, establishing a solid user base and creating the foundation for long-term success in the EU IoT markets.”

Homematic is produced by eQ-3, a leading technology company for home control and consumer electronics. eQ-3 provides the largest product portfolio in Europe and has in total more than 21 million wireless devices shipped. eQ-3’s installed base is more than 600,000 households with whole-home and heating solutions.

Bernd Grohmann, Executive Vice President and CTO at eQ-3 AG, will speak on the CONNECTIONS™ Summit session “IoT and Smart Home: Seamless Interoperability” at 1:15 p.m. on January 5. The session will address the effectiveness and potential outcome of various alliances in the face of the growing smart home potential of Google, Apple, Amazon, and Samsung.

Joining Grohmann and Kerber on the panel are the following speakers:

  • Joseph Bousaba, Vice President, Smart Home & Consumer Businesses, Qualcomm
  • Chester Chen, Director of International Market, Galaxywind Network Systems Co., Ltd.
  • Rob Conant, CEO, Cirrent
  • Grant Erickson, President, Thread Group
  • William Oget, VP Engineering, Arrayent Inc.

“At eQ-3, we believe that ultimately all IoT devices will be based on IPv6 – including all devices in home control. With IPv6 in all Homematic IP devices, eQ-3 is the pioneer to this vision. By providing the best ease-of-use and best security and data privacy, combined with best range and robustness in a broad product range attractively priced for consumers, Homematic IP impressively underlines its commercial potential. We selected the CONNECTIONS™ Summit, hosted by Parks Associates, to display our new platform for the first time in the U.S.,” Grohmann said.
