CES 2014: Digital healthcare opportunities for tech start-ups

The sick, the old and the stressed are the unlikely new target market for a growing corner of the technology industry, which is salivating over the opportunities offered by healthcare reform in the US.

Young companies such as Qardio are bubbling up everywhere, excited to work in an area previously neglected by the technology industry. But Harry Wang, an analyst at Parks Associates, said larger companies such as United Healthcare, a US health insurer, would be ready to “scoop up” the successful start-ups.

“The next two years are an entrepreneurs story but in 2016 and 2017 we’ll see a lot of acquisition and consolidation in the space,” he said.
