Tom has been a client of Parks Associates’ REM service (2010) while serving Lennox Industries as Corporate Director, Advanced Engineering and as Director of Product Management.

Tom has previously worked in the utilities industry, the consumer goods industry and for Motorola in the telecom industry.

He holds a MS in Software Engineering from the University of Texas and a BS in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.

His roles in product strategy for a home controls company as well as experience in the utilities industry and the telecom space provides him with very strong qualifications to serve our energy and home controls clients’ needs.

Roy Perry is responsible for long-term product strategy and technology partner development to expand Alarm.com’s ecosystem of compatible devices, apps, services, and networks. Previously, Mr. Perry was Director, Strategic Assessment, for CableLabs. He led the Security, Monitoring, and Automation (SMA) program, which evaluated technologies that could provide smart home capabilities, such as home security, energy management, and home automation, for the cable industry, and developed an associated protocol for home monitoring and control. He acted as liaison to the alarm/security industry and the Smart Grid/utility industry, and developed public policy positions for the cable industry around smart homes and the smart grid.

Mr. Perry has a unique cross-industry perspective, having worked for service providers, technology suppliers, and industry R&D labs. He has developed broadband, VoIP, smart home, and smart grid consumer products and services strategies. In the 90’s, Mr. Perry held senior technical staff positions at US WEST Advanced Technologies and MediaOne, designing and deploying IP broadband networks. Starting in 2000, he held cable-related executive positions at Nortel Networks and Cisco Systems, managed the systems integration and launch of VoIP at Adelphia, and assessed strategic opportunities for the cable industry at CableLabs. Roy earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Virginia Tech.

Bill Scheffler serves as Director of U.S. Sales, for Z-Wave™ at Sigma Designs and has over 25 years of experience in the home automation business. He has presented at multiple smart energy conferences on behalf of the Z-Wave Alliance to both US and European audiences. He joined Zensys, acquired by Sigma Designs in December 2008, in May 2001 after a 16-year career with X-10. While at X-10, Scheffler held several leadership positions, including Senior Vice President of OEM Sales and Marketing. Additionally, Scheffler was one of the original founders and a former president of the Home Automation Association. Scheffler holds an Undergraduate and Graduate degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Steve Shapiro, Group Director, Product Management, ADT

Steve Shapiro is the Group Director of Product Management for ADT Security Services, the industry leader in electronic security solutions. In this role, Steve drives product strategy and direction for an extensive portfolio of ADT products, including the company’s revolutionary smart home automation system, ADT Pulse Interactive Solutions™, as well as all intrusion systems, fire systems, home health care systems and communications systems. As industry trends and technology continue to evolve, Steve is responsible for evaluating and selecting new products, technologies and services that ensure value to ADT’s growing customer base.

Prior to joining ADT, Steve was a consultant to Sirius-XM Satellite Radio where he developed product roadmaps and product definitions for mobile and portable products.

His career in Product Marketing and Product Management began at Motorola, where he was responsible for many communications products over 20 years that included two-way radios, one-way pagers, two-way pagers and global cellular phones, including Motorola’s first color and camera phones.

Steve graduated from Florida International University with an MBA in Business Administration. He holds FCC professional and amateur licenses, has been awarded seven patents, and earned a Black Belt in Marketing for Six Sigma.
