Installing Dealers Expecting Robust Growth for Residential Sales in 2002
Parks Associates' 1Q02 survey of its
Installing Dealer ePanel reveals
that installing dealers are adjusting their product mix to catch the next
wave of sales in residential markets.
Nearly 83% of the 273 installing dealers surveyed in
Parks Associates’
Installing Dealer ePanel
believe that sales volumes in
2002 will improve significantly over 2001. This renewed optimism should be
encouraging to manufacturers, who have weathered a difficult year and are
wary of economists’ vague projections of an economic turnaround in the
economy.
“The findings from this first installing dealer survey are encouraging,
as this channel is typically the first to know which way the arrow is
pointing,” states Tricia Parks, President of Parks Associates. “This is
precisely why we launched the
Installing Dealer ePanel
– to be a leading indicator of trends in the market and an early warning
system for our clients.”
Results show that dealers are adding product categories that will help
them catch the next wave of customer demand in 2002. Similarly they are
shedding products with poor margins and low customer demand. “No-new-wires”
networking, high-end lighting, and security systems are among the most
popular categories to be added by installing dealers.

“These additions correlate with the increasing penetration of personal
computers in households, adoption of broadband access, and consumer concerns
with security,” explains
Bill Ablondi, ePanel Program Director. “Dealers are adding
products that complement their current line and allow them to capture more
of the installation pie.”
Parks Associates’
Installing Dealer ePanel is comprised of principals from installing
dealerships across the U.S. They have agreed to participate in periodic
surveys focusing on the products they are supporting, those they’re not, and
the rationale behind their decisions to add or drop specific product lines.
In addition to product-related research, Parks Associates’
Installing Dealer ePanel profiles participating dealers with the
goal of understanding how their business models are changing and how their
approach to the market differs depending on their particular business focus
within this industry.
“No manufacturer can ever be too close to the installing dealer channel
in this dynamic market environment,” says
Kurt Scherf, Vice
President of Research at Parks Associates. “Our research is designed to
complement the dealer programs that successful manufacturers already have in
place. We are gathering tactical intelligence that clients can incorporate
immediately into their sales and marketing activities.”
