Cross-Category Digital Opportunities in Focus at Forum 2001
Despite the recent economic slowdown in the
technology sector, recent studies from Parks Associates indicate that the demand for
networking and communication solutions will continue to spur growth over the next five
years and create cross-category revenue opportunities in key residential, small business,
and mobile segments.
Forecasts for network-capable entertainment products and automobile telematics in
particular show annual end-user revenues in the billions of dollars by 2005. Parks
Associates' Forum 2001, which will take place on
October 1-3 at The Regent Las Vegas, will assemble the top executives in these industries
to examine further the future possibilities, and the dramatic growth opportunities, for
home and mobile technologies.

Now in its fourteenth year, Forum 2001 will
focus on cross-category opportunities as leaders in the technology space gather to discuss
the opportunities and challenges facing this industry. This year's theme, Leveraging
Digital Opportunities, focuses on mobile, small office, and home applications that
leverage the growth of the Internet to deliver new and innovative services to the end
customer in a variety of environments. Each year, Forum provides a cross-industry roundup
of strategic thought, current activity, and market trends for companies offering products,
systems and services to consumers-at-home.
"The premise for Forum has always been to
focus on the consumer first, and the applications second, and this year's lineup of
speakers will continue this theme," said
Tricia Parks, president of Parks
Associates. "The addition of the small office and mobile communications tracks this
year points to a growing realization that technology development that may have focused
entirely on one area will likely have value in other sectors as well. The challenge for
the industry at this point and time is to discern where the early opportunities
exist."
Forum topics will range from mobile telematics
to the connected home; innovations in energy management, broadband, and entertainment;
distribution shifts; the role of brand; and research regarding today's consumer view of
"digital." Key companies are invited to share their views of what applications
and services currently drive the digital consumer market and what future products and
services are being developed.
Approximately 300 executives from the computing, security, energy, controls,
infrastructure, technology development, entertainment, telecommunications, and networking
industries attend Forum. While companies and
products are diverse, the common thread for all attendees is to understand consumers and
leverage opportunity with digital products and their services. In the end, the consumers'
wants and needs are what will push the markets forward.
