John Curbishley leads the strategy, operations and new business team within Viacom’s distribution group.  John is responsible for developing and implementing distribution strategies for Viacom’s brands across a full range of platforms including MVPDs, SVOD and AVOD platforms, and Viacom D2C services.  In addition he is focused on identifying new and emerging distribution opportunities as well as developing new products for existing distributors, and also manages business operations for the group including content delivery. John reports to Viacom’s EVP and Head of Distribution and Business Development, Tom Gorke.  Before joining Viacom, Curbishley’s 20-year career in the media industry included strategy and business development roles with NBCUniversal and the BBC, and experience as a strategy consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton.  He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a law degree from the University of Oxford.


Erin L. McPherson Erin L. McPherson, Chief Content Officer, Verizon

Erin McPherson oversees the content business across Verizon’s growing number of platforms and services, including Fios, Broadband, Wireless and 5G Home. She and her team drive content strategy, deal negotiation and partner management for Verizon partners, including all major broadcast and cable networks, sports and digital publishers and creators. 
 
Prior to Verizon, Erin served as Chief Content Officer at Maker Studios, the world’s largest network of short-form online video, which was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2014. In her role at Maker, Erin oversaw the development and production of hit YouTube programming as well as innovative franchises across Disney. Before joining Maker, Erin was Vice President and Head of Video at Yahoo, where she led the company’s foray into original video and oversaw award winning Yahoo Studios.
 
Erin started her career also practicing law, specializing in intellectual property, and entertainment law. She served as in-house counsel for LivePlanet, founded by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and she served as a judicial clerk to the Hon. Consuelo B. Marshall, Federal District Judge in the Central District of California. She is a graduate of Middlebury College and Harvard Law School.


Tom Ryan Tom Ryan, CEO and Co-Founder , Pluto TV

Tom Ryan is CEO and co-founder of Pluto TV, the leading free streaming television service in the US, which carries and programs more than 200 live channels and thousands of on-demand movies and TV shows in partnership with major TV networks, movie studios, publishers, and digital media companies. Over 18 million viewers tune in each month to watch premium news, TV shows, movies, sports, live events, cartoons, and trending digital series on mobile, web, and living room devices. Pluto TV is a top free app on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Android mobile and also powers built-in streaming television services on Vizio and Samsung smart TVs. Pluto TV was acquired by Viacom for $340 million in March 2019.
 
Additionally, Tom is a founding board member of Smule (the leader in social music with over 50 million monthly users performing over 20 million songs daily via its mobile apps) and a board member of Threadless (a popular crowdsourced art and e-commerce company where he served as CEO from 2008 to 2012). He is also a venture advisor to Felix Capital and a fund advisor to SignalFire. 
 
Previously, Tom served on the board of men’s clothing service Trunk Club until its acquisition by JW Nordstrom in 2014 as well as Society6, a Threadless portfolio company, until its acquisition by Leaf Group in 2013. Tom previously served as SVP of Digital Strategy at EMI Music as well as co-founder of Cductive (an early digital music retailer company that he merged with eMusic). He holds an AB from Dartmouth College and an MBA from INSEAD in France.

Eric Berman, Head of Partnerships and Business Development, Crunchyroll Eric Berman is the head of partnerships and business development for Crunchyroll, the world's most popular anime brand with 50 million registered users and two million subscribers. In this role, Berman is responsible for building direct to consumer partnerships across video distribution platforms and connected devices, along with exploring new business opportunities with both traditional and digital content creators. Ronald joined ActiveVideo in 2009 following the company’s acquisition of Avinity Systems, a leading developer of cloud-based platforms. As CEO and co-founder of Avinity, Ronald led a team that enabled rich interactive experiences across a wide range of devices, from low-power digital set-top boxes to CI Plus enabled TVs.
 
Previously, Ronald pioneered WiFi technologies and contributed to several key IEEE 802.11 standards as CTO and co-founder of No Wires Needed, which was acquired by Intersil in 2000 and ultimately became part of Conexant Systems. Ronald earned an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Twente in Enchede, The Netherlands. He is the holder of several patents.

In 1984, Sean founded his first company – TradeNet. TradeNet invented instant messaging and deployed it all over the world as a high-speed communications tool for commodities traders and brokers.  In 1992, TradeNet merged with TEAM Software – extending the company’s services into real-time group-messaging for general use on the Internet. TEAM was sold to ESL in 1995.
 
In 1995, Sean became the founding COO of the @Home Network where he managed a brilliant team that created the world’s largest residential broadband network and one of the most successful IPOs of its generation.
 
In the 2002 downturn, Sean founded Odyssey Telecorp to acquire and operate a group of telecom services companies including fiber networks, data centers, cell towers. In 2006, Odyssey sold its fiber network to Level3 Communications. Through a joint venture with Duke Energy, Odyssey continues to own and operate one of the largest private cell tower companies in the U.S. and a market leader in 5G network deployments.

He became enamored with the digital arena after spending 10+ years working for Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video Enterprises where he focused on establishing Saturday Night Live’s presence around the world and acquiring film and TV catalogs. Alex left Broadway Video to launch his own company, Glowcast Ventures LLC.

Steve Epstein Steve Epstein, Head of Innovation and Distinguished Engineer , Synamedia

Steve has worked for the past 23 Years at NDS, Cisco and Synamedia as distinguished engineer and VP of technology in the roles of Solution Architect, Technical Evangelist and Product manager. Steve owns over 40 patents in fields of video, cybersecurity, machine learning and analytics and is an expert in cybersecurity , DRM, Big Data, Conditional Access, machine learning, cloud computing, IP and broadcast television and Internet technologies. Steve has been the lead architect for some of the largest digital television systems including FOXTEL, Sky New Zealand, Astro and Sky Life in Korea and has worked on Satellite, Cable, terrestrial and OTT systems. Laura currently lead’s Redbox’s Digital content relationships with Studios and Independent partners with a distinct focus on growing our AVOD content library in preparation for our launch later this year.
 
Laura has been in the entertainment industry for over 13 years, with extensive experience in in both the physical and digital categories of content distribution. She has partnered with some of the largest digital distributors and retailers in the industry including, Walmart, Amazon, Vudu and iTunes. Laura has also represented such brands as PBS (”Downton Abbey”), Magnolia Pictures, Dreamworks/Classic Media (”Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “Frosty the Snowman”) and more than 30 other independent studios as well as many theatrical and DTV films. Additionally she worked at E! Networks on live events surrounding the Academy Awards, Emmy Awards and Grammy Awards as well as coverage of Comic-Con and Star Wars 30 for G4.

Prior to joining the company, Friedlander co-founded upLynk, an OVP specializing in simplifying broadcaster workflows during their transition to OTT. Verizon Media acquired upLynk in 2013. Friedlander graduated with a bachelor's degree in broadcasting: marketing and management from Arizona State University. He also obtained a master's degree in human-computer interaction from DePaul University and a Mini-Masters in user experience from Rutgers University.


Rob Gelick Rob Gelick, Executive Vice President and General Manager, CBS Entertainment Digital, CBS Interactive

Rob Gelick is the Executive Vice President and General Manager of CBS Entertainment Digital. In this role, he oversees CBS All Access, CBS’ digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service, the CBS apps, and CBS.com, as well as the CBS Television Distribution Digital businesses. This includes the product, technology and overall consumer experience across multiple platforms – the web, mobile, connected devices, social, video and gaming. 
 
In addition, Gelick’s team leads the development and production of original digital content to support the CBS Television Network’s slate of shows. This includes managing and producing original editorial and video for over 40 shows’ branded pages on CBS.com as well as social accounts. Gelick also leads the development of digital strategies to launch and grow the digital presence of CBS’s new shows as well as special events like the GRAMMYs and ACM Awards. 
 
Previously, Gelick was the SVP and GM of Digital Platforms for CBS Entertainment Digital and held the position of SVP and GM of CBS Mobile, where he led up all aspects of the CBS Mobile business across more than a dozen CBS Interactive properties including CBS.com, CBSSports.com, CBSNews.com, CNET, GameSpot, and TV.com; as well as mobile development for The CW and CBS Paramount Television. He also managed licensing of CBS brands on mobile platforms, and oversaw all mobile-related video, advertising, games, alerts and interactive TV initiatives. Gelick joined CBS Interactive in 2008 as Vice President of CBS Mobile, overseeing operations and new business development.
 
Prior to CBS, Gelick was one of the founding executives at Helio where he envisioned, developed and managed an award-winning portfolio of mobile social networking and media services including the industry’s first MySpace mobile service, the first complete YouTube Mobile offering. Before Helio, Gelick spent eight years at Motorola. There, he was instrumental in the company’s strategic alliance with Apple to bring iTunes to Motorola’s next generation mobile devices.


Ken Gerstein Ken Gerstein, VP Sales, NAGRA

After working in advertising/eCommerce for AOL/Time Warner in New York, Ken moved to Los Angeles to work on primetime TV and film productions at ABC/Disney/Fox/Paramount/Warner Bros.  He later joined Thomson/Grass Valley to expand team developing DMAM software products for migration to file-based media workflows. 
 
Ken transitioned to a sales role by leveraging experience at Hollywood studios, production companies, post-production facilities, and pay-TV operators. This includes his role at Ateme selling video compression products into M&E market, then at Civolution as VP of Sales managing the NexGuard suite of forensic watermarking products for the West Coast. After the acquisition of NexGuard by NAGRA in 2016 expanded role to head global sales of  NAGRA Anti-Piracy Services and NexGuard watermarking.

Jamie Grosz Jamie Grosz, Content Acquisition and Business Development, Philo

In her role as Head of Business Development at Philo, Jamie is integral to the company's business development and content acquisition efforts, bringing the shows subscribers love to Philo’s entertainment-focused OTT platform. She takes a thoughtful approach in determining the distribution roadmap to help maximize Philo's growth opportunity in a scalable way. With a keen understanding of the business of negotiating distribution, managing content and business relationships, and developing both business and content strategy, she brings a deft hand to the most critical challenges facing the company.
 
Before joining Philo, Jamie honed her skills at HBO where she worked on worldwide digital distribution and business development. While there, she also specialized in marketing and distribution to the university and college markets. Jamie graduated from New York Law School as a Juris Doctor in 2011 and Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

Prior to that Ms. Hurwitz was Chief Content Officer for FOTV Media Networks Inc. a global platform she grew more than 900 channels, programming the FOTV linear channel with global carriage via Digital, OTT, Dish and Sky (UK), and part of an executive team that spoke to the FCC about the emerging vMVPD entrants into the content marketplace. From 2010-2015, Kim was Director of Marketing for DIRECTV overseeing PPV and Advanced Products managing a $500mm annual P&L, returning to the telecommunications giant from 2009-2010. Mark joined NBCUniversal from Comcast Interactive Media (CIM) where he led mobile strategy and business development across a portfolio of digital properties, as well as co-led the strategy and go-to-market launch of Xfinity's initial video service on iOS (iPad & iPhone) and Android devices. Prior to Comcast, Young was at The Walt Disney Company for seven years, of which the last three years he served as the vice president of strategy and business development for The Walt Disney Internet and Mobile Group. Prior to Disney, he was the vice president of business development and partner management for mobile data services pioneer Moviso/Infospace, and an executive at IBM's Innovation Center where he advised studios and media companies on digital asset distribution and management. He is a member of the Center of Technology Management at USC and on the board of the home entertainment industry trade association, Digital Entertainment Group (DEG).
