Next Phase in the Streaming Wars
The OTT space has been bolstered recently with the launch of high-profile services such as Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, and Peacock. Each is taking a different approach to gaining market share in a crowded OTT landscape, and their effect on the CE platform ecosystem is significant. At the same time, many services need to adjust near-term content strategies to compensate for production shutdowns in original content. This session addresses the major changes taking place for video distribution and features Parks Associates latest consumer trending data.

Retention and Churn in OTT
OTT services are ramping up their free trial and promotional activities. This session addresses key customer acquisition and retention efforts, satisfaction with current services, and the impact of churn on the market, as well as the ideal time period for an OTT service trial.

This session addresses the rapid evolution of the advertising OTT space as ad-supported video becomes a central part of the offering for many key services. It also tracks the growth in consumer video consumption following COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and how these trends will shape long-term usage.

Visionary Insight - Harnessing the Power of Storytelling in Sports

ESPN

How do you deconstruct and quantify the essence of powerful storytelling to drive meaningful fan engagement and grow brand affinity?
Sports seems to bring out the best in storytelling – drama is built-in, and the main characters are heroic everymen and women who follow the ultimate Hero’s Journey. However, not all sports storytelling is created equal -- given that the plot and constructs of sports stories are often so similar, what differentiates one brand or piece of content from another? This ESPN project shows how research can develop a unique perspective on effective and impactful storytelling in sports that can be applied to media brands and content properties to guide future planning and investments. Through a holistic approach of qualitative and quantitative methods combined with advanced analytics, we are able to assess the characteristics of impactful and compelling storytelling in sport and evaluate specific brands/media owners/individuals on those metrics to identify new opportunities.
