Parks Associates forecasts almost 50 million households will
have a smart meter by 2012. But it is not the only
technology in the home on a strong growth trajectory. By
2013, almost 350 million households worldwide will have a
home network.
The connections between REM solutions and the other
systems in the home enhance the value of Smart Grid
technologies and extend benefits to appliances, PCs, and
even mobile devices, creating opportunities for monitoring
applications, smart devices, and energy management.
For almost 25 years, Parks Associates has followed the
convergence of digital solutions, combining consumer
research with market expertise to track growth in home
systems and measure the impact of networking and broadband
on the connected lifestyle.
Our analysts moderate the Summit sessions and provide
analysis on the role of REM in the connected home, plus the
latest consumer research and forecasts for energy management
and home systems.

Austin Energy operates the first and
largest working Smart Grid in the
U.S. It covers 440 square miles, 500,000 devices, 100
terabytes of data, 1 million consumers, and 43,000
businesses, and we are moving very fast to our next phase of
evolution. The current phase focuses on the utility side of
the grid, a phase coined Smart Grid 1.0.
Austin Energy is now moving beyond the meter and into the
home. The company is moving into Smart Grid 2.0, which
focuses on managing and leveraging Distributed Generation
(Solar PV, Micro Wind, etc.), Storage, Plug-In Hybrid
Vehicles, Electric Vehicles, and Smart Appliances on the
customer side of the meter.
At Smart Energy Summit, CIO Andres Carvallo and other
team leaders provide details on the requirements and
challenges in deploying this technology, from the trends
driving this technological revolution to feedback from their
consumers.
With Austin Energy's
Smart Grid as a springboard, the event features knowledge
and insight, consumer research data, and expert perspectives
from managers and strategists active in this growing area.
