Keynote Speakers


Amy L. Banse

PRESIDENT OF COMCAST INTERACTIVE MEDIA, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF COMCAST CORPORATION

Amy Banse serves as President of Comcast Interactive Media (CIM), a division of Comcast Corporation that is responsible for developing and operating Internet businesses focused on entertainment, information and communication, including Comcast.net.

Since founding CIM in December of 2005, Ms. Banse has overseen the acquisition or development of all CIM’s entertainment, information and communications properties. In January 2008, CIM launched Fancast.com a national online entertainment site. In 2007 the division acquired Fandango.com, a top movie and entertainment destination that sells movie tickets at over 15,000 screens and launched a redesign of Comcast.net, the company’s top-ten ranked award winning portal. In 2006, CIM launched Ziddio.com, a national multi-platform user-generated site and GameInvasion.net, a national online site offering for hardcore gaming enthusiasts. That year, they also acquired thePlatform, the industry-leading provider of digital media publishing solutions over broadband and wireless networks.

Ms. Banse, joined Comcast in 1991 as an in-house attorney responsible for programming acquisition and most recently served as Executive Vice President of Content Development, where she oversaw the company’s investments in and the development of cable networks including E!, Style Network, The Golf Channel, VERSUS , G4, and Comcast’s regional sports networks.

Ms. Banse serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees for Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT) and is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Morris Arboretum. In 2007, she was named among the “Top 7 Programmers To Watch” and as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Cable” by CableWorld magazine. She also received “The Distinguished Alumni Award” from Springside School for Girls in 2007. In 2006, she was honored by Girls, Inc. as an outstanding role model for girls during their annual Celebration Luncheon. Banse has also been honored as a “Wonder Woman” of the cable industry by Multichannel News and Broadcasting and Cable’s “Next Wave” of industry leaders.

Ms. Banse has been a featured keynote in venues around the country discussing the opportunities and development in the communications and entertainment industry, most recently with appearances at the Museum of Television and Radio in March 2007 and as a featured keynote in October 2007 at the Web 2.0 Summit which explores the bounds of technology, communication and internet development.

Ms. Banse, received a BA from Harvard University and a JD from Temple University Law School. She and her husband and their four children live in Philadelphia.


Rebecca Jacoby

Sr. VP & CIO, Cisco Systems, Inc.

Chief Information Officer Rebecca Jacoby has more than 11 years of experience at Cisco in a variety of operations and IT leadership roles. Her extensive understanding of business operations helps her advance Cisco’s business through the use of Cisco technology. Jacoby is responsible for making the Cisco IT group a strategic business partner and for producing significant business value for Cisco in the form of financial performance, customer satisfaction and loyalty, market share, and productivity.

Previously at Cisco, Jacoby had responsibility for customer service and operational systems and played a key leadership role on the Business Process Operations Council, which drives the transformation agenda at Cisco. Her strong commitment to operational excellence, innovative approach to business problems, and aptitude for partnering cross-functionally are reshaping and elevating the role of IT at Cisco.

Jacoby joined Cisco in 1995 as senior manufacturing operations manager. In 1996, she was recognized with the YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) award. She was director of manufacturing for the Access business unit prior to establishing the central manufacturing planning function in 1997 and assuming responsibility for manufacturing IT in 1999. In 2003 she became vice president for customer service and operational systems.

Prior to joining Cisco, Jacoby held a variety of planning and operations positions at UB Networks, Inc. and Amdahl Corporation.
Jacoby has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of the Pacific and a master’s in business administration from Santa Clara University.


Paul Liao

Chief Technology Officer, Panasonic North America

Dr. Liao holds the positions of Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for the Panasonic Corporation of North America, and is the President of its Panasonic R&D Company of America. Dr. Liao serves on the Board of the Panasonic Foundation, is a member of the FCC’s Technological Advisory Council, and serves on the Consumer Electronics Association Board of Industry Leaders.

Prior to joining Panasonic, he held a number of positions at Bell Communications Research, Inc. (Bellcore) and Bell Laboratories including as the Vice President for Emerging Networks, Assistant Vice President of the Solid State Research Laboratory, the Network Systems Research Laboratory, and the Network Architecture and Foundations Center.

He is a past President of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, and a recipient of the IEEE Millennium Medal. Dr. Liao is a former editor of the Journal of the Optical Society of America B: Optical Physics, and has been Co-Editor for the Academic Press Series entitled Quantum Electronics. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Internet Home Alliance, and of the Board of Trustees of Brookdale Community College located in Lincroft, New Jersey.

Dr. Liao is a fellow of the IEEE, the American Physical Society, and the Optical Society of America and was part of the Leadership New Jersey Class of 1989.


Fred McIntyre

Senior Vice President, AOL Video, AOL

Fred McIntyre is Senior Vice President of AOL Video, where he directs the team that leads and executes AOL's comprehensive strategy for video and operates AOL's video products across AOL's network of Web properties. McIntyre joined AOL in 1999 and has worked in a variety of capacities, including most recently Vice President of Programming & Media Networks for AOL for Broadband. He also spent several years as Vice President of Business Development for AOL Entertainment where his responsibilities included mapping and implementing the strategy that established AOL as a premier online destination and industry partner for Games, Movies, Music, Radio, Television, and Ticketing. Prior to AOL, McIntyre held senior management positions at Spinner.com, VIBE Magazine and SPIN Magazine.


Phil McKinney

Vice President & CTO, Personal Systems Group, Hewlett-Packard

Mr. Philip McKinney oversees the long-range technical strategy, research and development and innovation programs for the Personal Systems Group. Mr. McKinney is recognized, through his worldwide speaking engagements, blog and weekly pod cast as a leading authority on innovation and its impact on business, industries, economies and society.

Prior to his current role, Phil was the Vice President and CTO for HP's Network and Server Provider Business, responsible for the executive CTO relationship, long-range strategy and R&D for HP's largest industry vertical business segment.

Before joining HP, Phil was engaged in the day-to-day operational challenges as the Senior Vice President and founding CIO for Teligent, a global provider of fixed-wireless services. At Teligent, he led the strategy development, IT infrastructure build out and on-going operations, managing a team of more than 1,000 technology professionals.

Prior to joining Teligent, McKinney was the senior executive responsible for the Communication Industry Consulting Practice at Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) where he directed consulting engagements worldwide. Earlier in his career at CSC, he oversaw the communication industry managed services division that provided mission critical system outsourcing for more than 165 network and service providers worldwide.

McKinney currently serves on the Board of Directors for Signafor, Inc.

Timo Auer, Vice President, TeliaSonera Plc, Broadband Services Timo Auer (PhD) has been working at TeliaSonera since 1997 in various management positions. At TeliaSonera he has been heading long term R&D activities, product management and development as well as IT.


Saul Berman

Media & Entertainment, Global & Americas Strategy Leader, IBM Global Business Services

Saul J. Berman is the Global Lead Strategy Partner for the Media and Entertainment Practice as well as a Global Strategy & Change Services Leader at IBM Global Business Services (GBS). Prior to joining IBM, Saul was the Global Strategic Change Leader at PwC Consulting. He was also previously with The Boston Consulting Group, and a divisional Vice President with Broadway Department Stores and an Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Southern California. Dr. Berman has more than 25 years of consulting experience advising senior management of large corporate and start-up organizations. He has directed engagements addressing issues of strategy, organization, and operations. He has worked extensively on issues of competitive positioning, differentiation, new business plans & strategies, new business models, growth, operational & cost improvement, operations/manufacturing strategy, organizational design and enterprise transformation. His clients have included most of the major media companies as well as internet companies, telecommunication companies, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers and automotive companies in the United States, Japan, Europe and Australia. Dr. Berman holds a Ph.D. in Management and Information Systems and a MBA in Production Systems and Operations Research from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University in New York. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia


SCOTT BIRNBAUM

Vice President, Samsung LCD Business

Scott Birnbaum is vice president of the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Business at Samsung Semiconductor, Inc., responsible for sales operations throughout the Americas. In this capacity, he focuses on working closely with customers to develop new applications for LCDs, while building strategic OEM relationships in the TV, PC monitor, notebook and cellular phone sectors.

Birnbaum brings with him a thorough “hands on” understanding of all aspects of the electronics value chain, leveraging more than 20 years of leadership in sales, marketing and operational management roles within the LCD, semiconductor, electronic manufacturing services and distribution industries.

Birnbaum previously served as senior vice president of global business development at All-American Semiconductor, the fourth largest semiconductor distributor in North America. Before that, he served for four years in global and national sales positions at Sharp Electronics. Earlier, he held a number of sales and marketing management positions at Texas Instruments over a 10-year span.

Birnbaum holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Ohio State University.


Stephen Blum

President, Tellus Venture Associates

Stephen Blum is president of Tellus Venture Associates®, a business development and market analysis consultancy for the digital media and telecommunications industries. He is a 30-year industry veteran and recognized as an expert in developing new digital consumer products, wireless and fiber optic broadband systems, and satellite broadcasting platforms and services. His accomplishments include playing key roles in the development and launch of DBS and satellite radio systems, including DirecTV. He is the author of seven books on the Internet and satellite broadcasting and is a frequent contributor to professional journals and industry events.

Located on California's Monterey Peninsula, Tellus Venture Associates serves start-up companies, established corporations, government agencies and private communities in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Rim.

Blum is Vice President ex officio of the Society of Satellite Professionals International, a member of the New Zealand Wireless Forum, a director of the Rotary Club of Monterey Pacific and a past Vice President of the World Affairs Council of the Monterey Bay Area. He holds an A.B. in History from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.A. in East Asia Studies from the University of Washington, and an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, and has received several major professional honors, including the PRSA Silver Anvil and the Ellen B. Scripps Fellowship. He is a nationally ranked triathlete and a multiple Ironman finisher.


Richard Brand

Co-chair, IPTV Interoperability Forum, ATIS; Director, Video Solutions, Nortel

Richard C. Brand works at Nortel as the Director of IPTV Solutions Architecture and Applications where he manages the establishment of new global IPTV standards and applications. He serves with Verizon as the Vice Chair of the ATIS IPTV Interoperability Forum (IIF) which has been established by ATIS to develop standards and related technical activities that enable the interoperability, interconnection and implementation of IPTV systems and services, including video on demand and interactive TV services. Brand has a background in voice, video and data communication networking and management and has been an active member and participant in the IEEE 802.3 Working Group for Ethernet standards going back to the 80’s where he lead the formation of the new standardization project now identified as Ethernet AV. He was a founder of the Metro Ethernet Forum and served as the President of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance. Prior to joining Nortel, he was a founder of two video network integration companies and also served as the President and board Chair of the Multi Media Communications Forum while an employee of National Semiconductor Corp.


Lew Brown

Executive Vice President of Marketing, Zensys

 

Lew Brown is the Executive Vice President of Marketing for Zensys, Inc., a leading provider of wireless networking technology for control and status reading applications. Lew joined the company in August 2006 and brings extensive knowledge with over 30 years of experience with the Consumer Electronics industry, mainly focusing on the retail, manufacturing, and distribution sectors.

In his new role, Lew will be responsible for the day-to-day management of marketing activities with the ultimate goal of establishing Z-Wave as the standard in wireless home control. Lew will also be responsible for channel marketing, marketing communications, product management and overall product strategy.

Prior to joining Zensys, Lew recently was the Director of Strategic Business Development at Monster Cable, a renowned CE accessory manufacturer. He also previously held the position of CEO at Mobilworks, a venture backed chain of high-end mobile electronics stores.


William Knox Carey

Director, Technology Initiatives, Intertrust

 

Knox Carey is the Director of Technology Initiatives at Intertrust Technologies Corporation. He joined Intertrust in 1999 as a member of the Technology Initiatives staff, focusing on standardization and strategic business development in the media and entertainment space. He has been an active leader and contributor in standards such as MPEG, OMA, and Marlin, and serves as chairman of the architecture working committee for the Coral Consortium DRM interoperability initiative. Dr. Carey joined Intertrust from Sony Corporation, where he was a senior research scientist in robust image and video compression. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 1998 and holds ten US and international patents.


Brian Chamberlin

VP, Interactive, NDS

Brian Chamberlin heads the Interactive Projects Group at NDS’ Southern California Office. This role leverages Brian’s 10 years of experience in software development and his hands-on experience on a variety of platforms including MediaHighway, OCAP, OpenTV and PowerTV to help customers create the best iTV experience possible on the given platform.

In addition, Brian works closes with NDS’ marketing department serving as an advocate for iTV to the creative community. Brian is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Interactive Peer Group and served as a mentor to the American Film Institute’s (AFI) Enhanced TV Workshop for 5 years.


Jim Chase

Director of Business Development, Ubicom, Inc.

Jim Chase is responsible for driving the strategy and execution for Ubicom’s connected CE solutions. Prior to joining Ubicom, Jim spent five years at Zoran, a solutions provider for digital entertainment and imaging, most recently serving as the product line director for DVD Recorder Products. In addition, Jim was the lead market evangelist for connected CE devices at Zoran, which included initiatives for networked digital photo frame and networked DVD player solutions. Previously, Jim held several executive level marketing roles at LSI Logic/C-Cube Microsystems' Home Entertainment Division, focusing on DVD and related consumer electronics IC businesses. Jim has over 20 years of industry experience, including roles at National Semiconductor and Analog Devices. He received both his BSEE and Master of Engineering degrees from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Rick Cnossen

Technical Working Group Chair, Continua Health Alliance; Manager, Medical Device Interoperability Standards, Digital Health Group, Intel Corp.

Rick is leading a team in Intel's Digital Health Standards & Policy Division that is focused on medical device interoperability standards and eco-system enabling activities. His team is working with several leading companies in the consumer healthcare industry to organize existing technologies and standards into a framework for the enablement of new, compelling consumer health and wellness products and services. He currently holds Chair positions for the Continua Health Alliance Technical Working Group (WG) and for the ISO/IEEE 11073 Medical Information Bus WG and is a participating member of the ISO/IEEE 11073 Personal Health Data WG, the ISO/IEEE 11073 RF Wireless WG, the Health Level Seven (HL7) Device WG, and the Bluetooth Medical Device Profile WG. Throughout his career, he has been involved in many industry technology and standards development efforts including Advanced Telecommunications Architecture (ATCA) Manageability Specification, Tactical Defense data collection / analysis, Hierarchical Data Assimilation and Storage, and High Performance Computing.


Patrick Cosson

VP, Marketing, VUDU

Patrick Cosson is VUDU’s Vice President of Marketing. Patrick is responsible for all aspects of VUDU’s marketing execution including product marketing, branding, user experience, consumer education, channel marketing, and public relations. Prior to joining VUDU, Patrick was Vice President of Marketing at Slim Devices, maker of the Squeezebox and Transporter digital media adapters. In this role, Patrick led continuous sales growth and positive market response to Slim Devices products, culminating in the sale of the company to Logitech in 2006. Prior to Slim Devices, Patrick served as Executive Director of Product Strategy at AOL Music, where he drove product development and branding strategy for Spinner and Winamp music products. Previously, Patrick had a successful tenure at Creative Labs, where he was responsible for marketing communications and internet marketing. Patrick holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an M.B.A from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Patrick recently presented at iHollywood Forum’s Digital Media Summit, and will be a featured presenter at Digital Hollywood Building Blocks 2008 (August 5-7, San Jose). Patrick has also presented at CES (2007), as well as a host of CEDIA events.


Kelly Davis-Felner

Senior Manager, Wi-Fi Alliance

Kelly Davis-Felner is a Senior Manager for the Wi-Fi Alliance, where she works on new program development, strategic planning, market research, international market development, and communications. Kelly has spoken at industry events worldwide about Wi-Fi’s impact on applications, devices, and users. Before joining the Wi-Fi Alliance in 2004, Kelly enjoyed roles in consumer and business marketing, as well as in non-profit services and management. Kelly holds a BA from Loyola University of New Orleans, a Masters in Social Work from Tulane University, and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin.


Martin DeBono

VP, Sales and Business Development, Pure Networks

Martin DeBono has been involved in the home networking space for the past four years and has worked with leading MSOs to develop home networking strategies that reduce operational costs while improving customer satisfaction.

In his current role, DeBono leads the Sales and Business Development group at Pure Networks. Previously, he was the Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Insightful Corporation (NASDAQ: IFUL) and prior to that he served as a senior analyst at Gomez Advisors, a technology research firm and as Director, CRM Products at Siebel Systems (NASDAQ: SEBL). At Siebel, he led product development and marketing of Siebel's industry-leading applications, such as Sales Automation, Sales Analytics, Service, and Call Center, and was instrumental in the shift towards creating and marketing business process solutions. Under DeBono's leadership the software solutions for which he was responsible consistently earned the highest marks from independent analysts, including Gartner, Meta Research, and Frost and Sullivan. He also served as a nuclear submarine officer onboard the USS GEORGIA and earned an MBA from Harvard University.

Pure Networks offers technologies and solutions to leading industry partners, including broadband service providers and consumer electronics manufacturers, to help service their customers more efficiently and effectively. The company has received accolades from publications like eWeek, PC Magazine, TWICE and U.S. News and World Report, and it received Laptop magazine’s prestigious Editors’ Choice Award for 2006 and 2007.


Ray DeRenzo

SVP, Product, Programming and Marketing, MobiTV

As Senior Vice President of Product, Programming and Marketing, Ray DeRenzo is charged with driving many areas of growth for MobiTV. DeRenzo works with media companies, TV broadcasters, wireless carriers and enabling third parties such as device manufacturers and system integrators, to drive adoption of MobiTV.

Prior to MobiTV, DeRenzo was Vice President of Business and Market Development for Telephia, where he focused on European market entry for this leading provider of syndicated competitive performance information and wireless consulting services. Previously, DeRenzo was Chief Marketing Officer at Vodafone, where he was responsible for all aspects of product management, development, sales and support of Vodafone’s Global Service Delivery Platform. Prior to Vodafone, DeRenzo focused on new product development for AirTouch Communications, a developer of new voice and data services.

DeRenzo began his career at Pacific Bell/Pacific Telesis, where he spent nearly 18 years in a variety of roles. He was a founding member of the team at Pacific Bell Mobile Services and also held roles in Product Management, Business Development, Strategy and Planning.

DeRenzo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Regional Planning from California State University (San Francisco) and a Masters in Business Administration from St. Mary’s College.


Nick Desai

CEO, Juice Wireless

Nick Desai is the co-founder and CEO of Juice Wireless. He is a mobile industry veteran, serial entrepreneur and visionary.

Nick is co-inventor of Juice’s flagship, award-winning mobile social broadcasting application called JuiceCaster. For Juice, Nick has recruited a world-class management team and raised $16 million in investment capital from global leaders Qualcomm, Citizen’s Communications and 21Ventures. He has led strategic positioning and business development for JuiceCaster, getting the service distributed on 10 leading carrier decks worldwide.

Nick successfully negotiates partnerships with big-brand content providers such as VOGUE Magazine to deliver fresh video content to mobile users. Nick and his team recently developed the world’s first Mobile Video Search (MVS) technology, enabling anyone with a video-capable cell phone to instantly watch desired videos on-demand.

Nick’s goal in the mobile-social networking space is to continuously develop new applications, features and tools that enhance people’s lives by allowing them to stay connected with their friends and family in real-time, from anywhere at anytime.

When Juice started as a mobile marketing business, Nick led sales and product development, securing customers and partners including Conde Nast, Teen Vogue, GQ Magazine, Sony Connect, Gillette, AOL, Glamour Magazine, Epicurious.com and many others. In addition to JuiceCaster, Nick invented Juice’s innovative mobile products including MobileBday.com, a free SMS based birthday reminder service. and Epi-To-Go, the award-winning mobile grocery shopping list application.

Prior to Juice Wireless, Nick was a consulting partner at Sennari Games, which built Jamdat’s hugely-successful bowling game. Nick was also a mobile strategy consultant to Vibe Magazine. In 2002, he joined Lemko Corporation as a principal member of the founding team. Lemko is a highly successful market leader in IP-based cellular infrastructure solutions. For Lemko, Nick led business development with top-tier carriers, including Cingular / AT&T, Reliance Infocomm, Idea Cellular, Sprint PCS and Bharti Telecom. Prior to Lemko, in 1998, Nick was founder and CEO of Zkey.com, a multi-award winning market leader and early trailblazer in consumer mobile applications. Zkey was the first mobile address book and email WAP site available in the US, launching in 1999. Amongst many other awards and accolades, Zkey was named PC Magazine’s Editor’s Choice and Top 100 sites on the Internet two years in a row. For Zkey, Nick raised nearly $15million in venture capital from Oracle, France Telecom, Omninet Capital and others. Nick also secured key customer deals with Virgin and Sprint PCS.

Nick is a frequent invited industry speaker and author. He has been an invited speaker at venues including the 2008 Red Herring North America conference, NAB 2008, MeM ‘08, CENEXT 2008, CONNECTIONS™, BREW 2007 Conference, the IAB MIXX Conference, CTIA, Under the Radar, the Mobile Social Networking Conference by Informa and the Harvard Business School. Currently, Nick writes a regular column for leading online magazines MediaPost.com and iMediaConnection. From 2001 to 2004, Nick wrote a regular column called the CEO Diary for California CEO Magazine.

Nick holds an MS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA and a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC Irvine. Nick lives in Redondo Beach, California and enjoys cooking, surfing and playing with his nephew in his free time.


Christopher Dow

Director, Software Development, Architecture, Macrovision Solutions Corporation

Mr. Dow is responsible for software architecture for Consumer Electronics in Macrovision’s Product Development organization. Prior to his current role, Mr. Dow was responsible for software development, support and architecture for Macrovision’s connected products engineering organization.

Mr. Dow has nearly 20 years of experience in the fields of computer graphics, multimedia and bioinformatics. Prior to Macrovision, Mr. Dow was director of software development at Mediabolic, which was acquired by Macrovision in January 2007. Prior to Mediabolic, Mr. Dow held management, engineering, and architecture roles at companies including Palm, SONICblue, Red Jade, Inc., 3dfx Interactive, da Vinci Time & Space, Kubota Graphics Corporation, Intelligenetics, Inc., and DNAStar, Inc. Mr. Dow has authored several patents on commercial skipping technology.


Pat Dunbar

Director of Mediaroom & Connected TV Advertising, Microsoft Corp.

Pat Dunbar is a recognized leader in the world of advertising and New Media, with twenty years experience in the development, marketing and management of online/internet/advanced television services. As Director of connected TV Advertising for Microsoft TV, Ms. Dunbar focuses on bringing new media experiences to Microsoft’s range of video platforms.

Prior to joining Microsoft TV, Ms. Dunbar co-founded the DiMAS (Digital Media and Advertising Strategy) Group. The DiMAS Group was responsible for numerous groundbreaking, cross industry initiatives to advance emerging media ad concepts. These solutions included AdLab, a multi-client research initiative and the ID!A Group, a cross industry working group with over 100 corporate leaders. DMAS Group also spawned BlackArrow, a venture backed startup focusing on digital advertising technologies, of which she was also co-founder of the company.

Prior to her tenure at DiMAS Group, Ms. Dunbar served as Senior Vice President at Ford Financial, as well as Vice President for Electronic Commerce for GMAC. It was at GM that she created the award-winning, definitive online financing site. MNs. Dunbar was also instrumental in the launch of a dealer to dealer auction service that sold over $1B in vehicles in its first year. Other corporate work included NBC, HBO, and Bank of America where she created the first online banking service.

Ms. Dunbar holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Northwestern University.

Martin joined Vollee from mobile solutions provider Openwave Systems, formerly known as phone.com, where he served as General Manager and Senior Vice President. At Openwave, he was responsible for the company’s largest division, Openwave Global Services, accounting for approximately half the company’s revenue. In his role he oversaw the delivery of mobile applications including music, community and messaging that are used daily by millions of subscribers.

Previously Martin was Vice President of Sales and Operations for engineering consultancy inCode Wireless (acquired by Verisign Nasdaq: VRSN) and at Deloitte's Consulting he was the partner who founded and led Deloitte’s Global Wireless Practice.

Thomas Ellsworth

Thomas Ellsworth is a deeply experienced veteran of the wireless industry. Before joining GoTV, Ellsworth served as Executive Vice President, Marketing and Corporate Development from 2001 to 2005 at JAMDAT Mobile. Inc. (NASDAQ: JMDT) where he was part of the management team that saw the company complete its highly successful IPO in September of 2004. Prior to JAMDAT he was Vice President of Incubator Development and Senior Director of Business Development in the wireless division of Sprint. In that role, Ellsworth oversaw the Sprint incubator joint venture that led to the formation of wireless companies - including JAMDAT Mobile and Boingo.

While at Sprint, Ellsworth also launched the 1st CDMA market in the US and developed what became the “Free and Clear” rate plans — a pioneering change in the wireless industry. Earlier in his career he held selling, marketing and strategy roles at California Amplifier, Inc., L.A. Cellular (acquired by AT&T) and IBM. Doug Fikse

Douglas A. Fikse currently serves as the president for On-Q/Legrand, the leader in home systems technology.

Mr. Fikse was the founding partner, president and CEO of On-Q Technologies, Inc. which was acquired by Legrand North America in 2005. The company, also known as On-Q Home, was the leader in the home networking systems market, offering customers friendlier and simpler ways to enhance any home with the intelligence to make a profound impact on daily living. The company was well-regarded in the industry receiving several awards for excellence in product.

Prior to On-Q Technologies, Mr. Fikse joined start-up company, Smart American Home Centers (SAHC) developing a one-stop dealer channel for home automation systems. In this role, Mr. Fikse was responsible for the product support, service and marketing. Mr. Fikse joined AMP Inc. in 1994 upon the acquisition of SAHC where he co-founded the successful OnQ® Home Wiring System in late 1995. Mr. Fikse led a management buyout of the AMP division in April of 1999 and became the president of On-Q Technologies.

Mr. Fikse began his career developing military weapon systems, industrial pumps and valves for molten steel and robotic systems with the Westinghouse Electric Company for more than 13 years. He held many engineering and management roles with Westinghouse, including the management of a classified SDI experiment on space power systems.

Mr. Fikse received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science and Applied Mechanics from U.C. San Diego and his Masters of Business Administration in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management from the University of Pittsburgh.


Meredith Flynn-Ripley

Meredith Flynn-Ripley was appointed CEO of Integra5 in March of 2006 and has spent the majority of her career building and leading new companies.

Prior to working with Integra5, Meredith served as president and CEO of three private software companies in the Boston area; Stargus, a broadband cable network management software company with customers such as Time-Warner Cable and UPC, which was acquired by C-COR.net; Seaport Software Solutions, a company specializing in application delivery and management technology for Fortune 100 enterprises that was acquired by Softricity; and Into Networks, which provides a software-on-demand technology platform designed exclusively for broadband networks.

Meredith was a founding member of Road Runner, the high speed data joint venture of Time Warner, MediaOne (now Comcast), Microsoft and Compaq (now HP), where she served as Vice President of Corporate Development. Prior to Road Runner, Meredith was Vice President of Product Development at MediaOne Broadband Internet Services. In that position she was responsible for product management of MediaOne Express, the company’s high speed data service, and DiveIn its local online programming initiative.

Earlier in her career, Meredith held senior management positions at US WEST Communications, including head of Content Strategy for the Interactive Television trial in Omaha. She pioneered the interactive media and technology space starting back in 1985 at Ogilvy & Mather Interactive, working with clients such as American Express and AT&T in mediums including online services and interactive television.

Meredith was recently named one of the “Top Women in Technology” by CableWorld magazine, “Telecom All-Star” by Mass High Tech and “Executive of the Year” by the Mass Technology Leadership Council.


Rob Gelphman

Chano Gomez

Chano is VP marketing with leading powerline communications semiconductor supplier DS2 and Director of DS2´s US office. He previously worked as VP for Technology and Strategic Partnerships and as Customer Support Manager responsible for coordination of all DS2’s support activities to its international customers, including product development support, field support, network design and deployment support and technical training.

Chano joined DS2 in 1999 as a Design Engineer with the System Architecture Group, focusing on the design and development of the MAC (Medium Access Control) and QoS (Quality of Service) mechanism of DS2's

Takao Gondo

Director, HD-PLC Alliance

Mr. Takao Gondo is the Director of HD-PLC Alliance Office North America as an alliance of voluntary groups. HD-PLC Alliance focuses on expanding the use of the HD-PLC fast power line communication technology and further improved communication compatibility among products employing the HD-PLC. In addition, he serves as the Director of Panasonic Communications Liaison Office America (PCLA) located in San Jose, California from 2007.

Prior to this role, Mr. Gondo engaged a development of the base line technology of HD-PLC in Panasonic Communications Co., Ltd., where he was responsible for the planning & developing HD-PLC for overseas market, product specification definition for next model and promotion of standardization activities such as IEEE, ITU-T and so on as well.

Mr. Gondo joined Kyushu Matsushita Electric Co., Ltd. (Present: Panasonic Communications Co., Ltd.) in 1995 and he engaged Radio Frequency Design of PHS (Personal Handy Phone System in Japan) and System Design of WLL (PHS based Wireless Local Loop).

HD-PLC Alliance has pursued to expand the HD-PLC technology to new areas such as Access/Utility/Mobile and more and has also been collaborating with various industries aggressively. This is because HD-PLC Alliance’s basic concept is to create “Green Ubiquitous Network Society” through the HD-PLC technology.


Marc Goodman

Director, Alcatel-Lucent

Marc Goodman is a Director at Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) in the North America Marketing Group where he is focusing on forward-looking trends and technologies. He is a subject matter expert in social networking and for the past few years, has been researching social networking applications and how teens and young adults interact with this growing trend of self-expression and communication.

Marc is also responsible for the creation and on-going management of Alcatel-Lucent’s “island” in the virtual world Second Life, where he launched a highly publicized innovation contest for next generation 4G wireless applications. Additionally, he manages the University Innovations Program which partners with universities to develop concept demos of futuristic ultra-high bandwidth applications such as augmented reality and mobile versions of massively multiplayer on-line games (MMOG). He has been at ALU for over nine years and has held positions in global marketing, business development, and new offer development.

Past professional experiences include marketing and product strategy at ITW, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as well as two entrepreneurial startups. He earned his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and graduated from the University of Illinois – Urbana with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.


Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Grallert

Managing Director, Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, HHI

Hans-Joachim Grallert received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Communications Engineering from the Rheinisch-Westfälisch-Technische-Hochschule Aachen, Germany, in 1974 and 1977, respectively. For his doctorate thesis he received the 1977 award of the German Information Technology Society. Prof. Grallert joined the Fraunhofer-Institute for Telecommunications.- Heinrich-Hertz-Institut – for the first time in 2004 as a consultant. In April 2005 he became managing director of the institute. Since 2005 he is Full Professor for Telecommunications at the Technische Universität Berlin at the Institute for Communications Systems. Before working for the Heinrich-Hertz-Institute Prof. Grallert was Managing Director of Marconi Communications Ondata GmbH and Vice President of Marconi Optical Networks, Backnang, Germany (2001-2003). From 1981 to 2001 he was with Siemens AG, Munich, eventually as Member of the Board and Senior Vice President of Siemens Information and Communication Optical Networks.

Until now he is member of several committees concerning optical communication technologies e.g. Chairman of European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC 2000), in Munich, and of ECOC2007, in Berlin. He is chairman of the advisory board for “FiberComm Fair”, Munich, and member of Information Technical Society (ITG) in the committees for “Optical Transmission Systems” and in the committee for “Informations- und Systemtheorie”.


Ken Haase

Sr. Director, Product Line Management, Motorola

Ken Haase serves as Sr. Director of Product Line Management in the Broadband Solutions Group within Motorola’s Home and Networks Mobility Business. He is responsible for Motorola’s Cable Voice & Data CPE and DSL CPE product portfolios.

Mr. Haase joined Motorola through the acquisition of Netopia, Inc. in February of 2007. At Netopia, he served as Vice President of Product Management and Technical Services. Ken has over 20 years of experience in the computer networking industry.

Ken started his career at NYNEX where as both a Systems and Project Engineer, he designed and installed networks for Fortune 500 companies in the Northeastern portion of the United States. Prior to working at Netopia, Ken held the position of Director of Product Marketing for Proxim with responsibility for indoor Wi-Fi and outdoor Broadband Wireless product portfolios. He also served as Vice President of Marketing at Farallon Communications where he introduced the first 802.11 wireless networking products for Apple Macintosh computers. Ken also held the General Chairman position at the HomeRF Working Group.


David Haadsma

David is CEO of Bsecure Technologies of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He started his career in manufacturing technology and ERP software consulting. For over 10 years, he led development teams in designing software for just in time automotive manufacturing systems. With the startling growth of new internet dangers to families, David co-founded Bsafe Online in 2001 to create a new client / server parental controls technology in a world of “fat client” competitors. Bsecure Technologies was formed more recently to address the need for device based, all-in-one security and parental controls solutions. The recent launch of D-Link’s Securespot 2.0 Security and Parental Controls managed service is an industry first with its layered defense architecture (cloud/device/endpoint) and graphical web managed interface. Barry Haaser

Dalen Harrison

Matt Harrison

Matt Harrison is General Manager of TI’s Medical Business Group in HPA, where he directs the definition, development and delivery of semiconductors for medical devices.

Matt began his career at TI in 1996 as a technical sales representative. Between 1999 and 2001, Matt played strategic roles in growing TI’s optical networking and digital power businesses, and he led the digital power business until 2003. In 2003, Matt left TI to co-found Commoca where he served as COO and was a member of the board of directors. In August 2006, Matt rejoined TI to help drive TI’s medical initiative.

Brian Henrichs

He later served as Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Development for General Bandwidth (now GenBand) and Chief Technology Officer for HyperEdge Corporation (now part of Westell). David Henry

Chris Hock

Brad Hunt

President, Digital Media Directions, LLC

Mr. Hunt is the President of Digital Media Directions, a digital media consulting firm working with clients in the consumer electronics, computer, television, and motion picture industries. His consulting has involved work in digital rights management, online content distribution, content fingerprinting & watermarking, high-definition DVD managed copying, PCTV, home media servers, digital mobile TV broadcasting, and 3-D home video. Previous to forming his consulting company, Mr. Hunt was the Chief Technology Officer for the Motion Picture Association of America for nearly eight years. At the MPAA, he worked closely with the six major studios on content protection technology initiatives, standards, and policymaking. Prior to the MPAA, he held the position of President & CEO of Cintel Inc., a manufacturer of digital film post-production hardware and software. Prior to Cintel, he was the Sr. Vice President of Technology for All Post Inc., a Los Angeles based video and audio post-production house where he established one of the first DVD authoring and MPEG compression facilities in the U.S. Mr. Hunt also had a long career at the Eastman Kodak Company where he held jobs in research & development, marketing, international sales, and strategic planning and was responsible for launching Kodak’s Digital Motion Imaging Division. Amit Jain

Amit Jain is the Vice President and General Manager of Airvana’s CDMA femtocell business unit. Prior to starting the CDMA femtocell business unit in early 2006, Amit lead product management of Airvana’s EV-DO radio access network product line where he helped build a market-leading roadmap for Airvana’s products and managed relationships with Airvana’s OEM customers. Prior to joining Airvana in 2001, Mr. Jain was a Staff Software Engineer at QUALCOMM, responsible for the development of CDMA network planning software. Jim Johnson

Jim Jones

Managing Director, Scale Venture Partners

Jim's investment focus is in semiconductor, MEMS components and enterprise systems. Jim joined Scale Venture Partners in 2000 and currently sits on the Boards of Auvitek, CipherMax, Discera, Entone, Innovative Micro Technology, NComputing, and Xceive. Jim was also responsible for ScaleVP's investment in Monolithic Power Systems (NASDAQ: MPWR).
