Aug 22, 201817% of U.S. broadband households interested in purchasing an independent living systemParks Associates’ pre-conference workshop to focus on independent living and wellness New research from Parks Associates reports 17% of U.S. broadband households are interested in purchasing a system that would help them live independently as they age. One-half of these consumers would prefer to purchase the system from a company specialized in independent living, while nearly 25% would prefer to buy from a home security service provider. Parks Associates will examine the market for IoT health solutions and current trends in the connected health market during “Independent Living and Wellness: A Growing Opportunity,” the pre-show workshop for Connected Health Summit on August 28. “A range of companies, including mattress manufacturers, retailers, medical device and CE manufacturers, residential security providers, and smart home device manufacturers, are evaluating the connected health market for new opportunities,” said Elizabeth Parks, SVP, Parks Associates. “Our pre-show workshop digs into the growing demand for these solutions and how consumerization trends will shape the next generation of connected health solutions.” “Independent Living and Wellness: A Growing Opportunity” will be held on Tuesday, August 28, prior to the opening reception for Parks Associates’ fifth-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. The event features analyst insights, industry perspectives on healthcare challenges and opportunities, and discussions on IoT solutions that best engage consumers and caregivers and meet the business goals of healthcare providers and insurers. The workshop includes the following sessions:
Participating speakers in the workshop include:
“Sleep is the foundation we all need for good health,” said Timo Aittokoski, Chief Scientist, Emfit. “Whether an athlete looking to maximize performance, a caregiver concerned about a loved one late at night, or the ‘average’ person who wants to feel the best they can during the day, understanding sleep patterns is the first step in making smart choices that affect wellness.” “The increase in consumer healthcare spending has spurred the development of new digital and mobile technologies that allow patients to take greater control their own health,” said Rob Flippo, CEO, MobileHelp. “From an influx of connected wearable and voice-responsive solutions, patient-driven healthcare is exploding in the marketplace and bringing real promise to long-term health management.” “It’s an honor to speak on the ‘Independent Living and Wellness: A Growing Opportunity’ workshop at Connected Health Summit,” said Geoff Gross, Founder & CEO, Medical Guardian. “There are more innovative products, services, and technologies today than ever before that are helping older adults safely age in place, as well as enable smarter caregiving. At Medical Guardian, we’re proud to help people take the next chapter of their life—head-on—as a leading medical alert provider in the country.” “Behavioral health is in the early days of a revolution,” said Hudson Harris, Chief Engagement Officer, HarrisLogic. “The number of providers is on the decline, yet demand is skyrocketing. Only through dramatic expansion of connected health services can we hope to provide high-quality care to the people that need it, when they need it.” “With a growing aging population, it’s becoming imperative that we leverage connected health technologies to care for citizens of all ages,” said Robert Havasy, Senior Director of Health Information Systems, Personal Connected Health Alliance. “I’m pleased to be a part of the discussion at this workshop, to share insights into how we make technology work for people who need it, where and when they need it most.” “With the number of new technologies centralized around health, there are many ways for consumers to engage in better health. Some of these tech solutions and innovations also pair with other solutions for even more robust outcomes and opportunities,” said Jeff Patton, GM Connected Home Products, GE Lighting. “If a consumer is going to enhance their health and wellness, it has to be simple, and today there are multiple solutions that are as easy as screwing in a light bulb.” “Sleep tracking is only the beginning of the sleep improvement process,” said Roy Raymann, Resident Sleep Expert & Vice President, Sleep Science & Scientific Affairs, SleepScore Labs. “The essential next step is to connect the consumer with evidence based sleep products that help them to achieve their personal sleep goals.” The fifth-annual Connected Health Summit provides in-depth analysis and discussion on the implications of the connected healthcare revolution and the resulting consumerization of healthcare.
