July 28, 201675% of diabetes patients do not use apps to manage careCare Innovations, mPulse Mobile, and Vivify Health to discuss innovative and disruptive connected health solutions and partnerships at Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers New connected health research from Parks Associates finds approximately 75% of consumers with diabetes do not use a diabetes management app to view, track, and share their diabetic care behavioral data, while 25% do not even use a glucometer. Parks Associates’ upcoming Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers, August 30 – September 1 in San Diego, will feature a session where Care Innovations, mPulse Mobile, and Vivify Health will discuss how new partnerships and technologies can help consumers better manage these types of chronic conditions. “Chronic conditions account for significant percentages of healthcare costs, so the industry is investing heavily in connected health solutions to better manage these patients, which includes over 60% of all U.S. broadband households,” said Harry Wang, Senior Director of Research, Parks Associates. “But the industry also needs to increase consumer adoption and usage if these efforts are to be effective. Consumer engagement is the key to the long-term plans for cost reduction in healthcare, and Connected Health Summit focuses on strategies to improve engagement among multiple consumer segments.”
Keynote speakers for the event include Annette Brüls, President, Diabetes Service and Solutions, Medtronic; Alex Hurd, Senior Director, Product Development, Growth and Payer Innovation -- Health & Wellness, Walmart; Dr. David Rhew, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Healthcare and Fitness, Samsung Electronics America; and Stuart Slutzky, Chief, Product Innovation, HumanaVitality. “Health insurers have the ability to impact consumers’ health conditions and curb healthcare costs. Many have aggressively expanded wellness programs, particularly through employers,” said Jennifer Kent, Director, Research Quality & Product Development, Parks Associates. “Awareness, however, is limited. Only 36% of U.S. consumers living in broadband households know that their employer offers a sponsored wellness program, and among them, more than half choose not to use it. Partnerships with players in the tech industry could raise awareness and wellness program participation.” Kent will moderate the session “Connected Health Partnerships: Strategies to Manage Chronic Conditions,” 11:15 a.m. on September 1, with the following speakers:
