Wednesday, May 3 Tricia Parks, President, Parks Associates, opened the Parks Associates and CABA workshops with an opening overview of the home networking market. Parks Associates packed one years worth of consumer data and analysis into a
day-long workshop covering home netw CABA's Home Networking Challenges and Solutions for the Residential and MDU Markets CABA's workshop featured practical insights and examples of successful home networking deployments from leading manufacturers, service providers, consultants, builders, and developers. This day-long workshop featured Herman Cardenas (SMART LLC), Peter Goolishian (Land Tejas Development), Alan Hald (FutureOne), William Walker (Wizer Home Systems), Bill Anderton (BroadbandNOW), Craig Bender (Tut Systems Inc.), Henry Pye (JPI Inc.), Boyer Taylor (The Multifamily Consortium), Greg Farmer (BACCSI), Richard Holtz (InfiniSys Inc.), Wayne Caswell (K2Vision), and Dr. Kenneth Wacks (home systems consultant). The Training Dept.'s Residential Network Technology for the OOs Led by Grayson Evans (The Training Dept.), this workshop covered technical and market analysis of the rapidly changing and emerging field of residential networks. Special OSGi Session CONNECTIONS 2000 was pleased to host members of the Open Services Gateway Initiative (OSGi) and serve as the launch point for Version 1.0 of the specification for a multi-service residential gateway. This session included an address from the president of OSGi, John Barr (Motorola), and was moderated by Tricia Parks. Keynote Speaker Jon De Vaan (Microsoft Corp.) formally opened the CONNECTIONS plenary sessions by discussing his Companys role in the Universal Plug and Play initiative and its role in creating the "connected" home. Thursday, May 4 Welcome and Overview Officially welcoming over 640 attendees, Ron Zimmer (CABA) and Tricia Parks (Parks Associates) spoke about the rapid growth of the home networking industry, one estimated to grow to nearly $5 billion by the end of 2004. Session I Opening Keynote Mike Moone (Cisco Systems Inc.) discussed his Companys role in the proliferation of the residential gateway and home networks. Session II Advancing the Networked Home Moderated by Ron Zimmer (CABA) and Tricia Parks (Parks Associates), the panel featured presentations from John Barr (Motorola and OSGi); Glenn Edens (AT&T), Mike Nelson (emWare); and Gary Shapiro (Consumer Electronics Association). Session IIIA Technical Requirements for a Gateway Moderated by David Dern (CABA), this panel featured Ajit Zacharias (Scientific-Atlanta); Steve Raschke (Sage Systems Inc.); John Rossi (Comverge Technologies); and Padmanand Warrier (Texas Instruments). Session IIIB Marketing: Moving Products and Services to Consumers Moderated by Tricia Parks (Parks Associates), this panel featured Doug Fikse (OnQ Technologies Inc.); Dave Martella (RadioShack); David Nash (Intel Corp.); and Janie Tsao (Linksys).
