Parks: Netflix retains OTT top-spot in the US

“Importantly, all of these services have increased their subscriber base over the past year,” said Brett Sappington, senior director of research, Parks Associates. “The top five OTT services have stayed consistent, primarily through maintaining or growing the massive user and subscriber bases that they have built over the past several years.”

Euro SVOD Lags The US

New research from Parks Associates shows that in the UK, 55% of broadband homes watch OTT video.

In France, the total is 51%. The levels of OTT usage lag that of the US, where 70% of broadband homes watch OTT video.

OTT Churn Edges Up In US

About 20% of US broadband homes had cancelled at least one OTT service in the last 12 months at the end of 2015, according to data from Parks Associates.

Netflix has the lowest churn among US OTT services, with 5% of broadband households cancelling the service over the 12 months.

According to Parks Associates, the overall estimated OTT churn figure had edged up to one in five homes at the end of the year from 18% at the end of the second quarter.

Major increase in Europe 4K TV appeal

Parks Associates claims that roughly 17% of broadband households in the UK, France, Germany, and Spain are planning to buy a flat-panel TV in the next year and over 50% consider 4K “an important or very important feature of their next model”.
