23% Of Millennials Are OTT-Only Broadband Households

Nearly a quarter of millennial heads of household are over the top (OTT)-only, which is higher than the national average of 15% among US broadband households.

According to research from Parks Associates, 61% of millennials subscribe to both pay TV and OTT services, which is also higher than the national average of 52%.

Netflix Has Lowest OTT US Subscriber Churn Rates

Several factors contribute to OTT video service churn by consumers, according to Brett Sappington, senior director of research at Parks Associates. “In some instances, consumers are experimenting with new services, trying a service and cancelling before the trial period ends or within a few months,” he said. “Popular shows or events, such as HBO’s Game of Thrones or WWE Network’s Wrestlemania, can be beneficial in terms of attracting users.”

Europe Still Reluctant To Pay For OTT Video

The number of paid OTT video subscriptions in Europe is significantly lower than in the US, according to data released this week by Parks Associates. While 64% of US broadband households subscribe to OTT video, only 30% of UK and 17% of French broadband households do the same.

33% of UK broadband households subscribed to an OTT video service as of 3Q 2015, according to Parks Associates.

The same study shows that only 15% of UK households with pay-TV subscribe to premium movie channels.
