Consumer Desktop Adoption Declines 30% Since 2009

New consumer research from Parks Associates finds a continued decline in the adoption rate for desktop computers. The report reveals that since 2009, nearly one third of U.S. broadband households have abandoned desktops as a platform. Only 6% of U.S. broadband households rely exclusively on desktops, while an additional 6% of households use only a combination of desktops and tablets.

Quarter Of Millennials Are OTT-Only Broadband Households

Nearly a quarter (23%) of Millennial heads of household are OTT only households, higher than the national average of 15% among all U.S broadband households.

Parks Associates analysts also note that 61% of Millennials subscribe to both pay-TV and OTT services, also higher than the national average of 52%.

Two-Thirds Of U.S. Smartphone Owners Listen To Streaming Music Daily

Smartphone owners spend more time per day listening to music on their device compared to other major entertainment activities, says Parks Associate.

Their research notes 68% of smartphone owners listen to streaming music daily, while 71% watch short video clips, but video viewers spend only 24 minutes on average watching short clips, while streaming music consumers spend 45 minutes per day on this activity.

Apple IPhones Accounted for 40% of U.S. Smartphone Market in 2015

Parks Associates released new mobile research today showing 86% of U.S. broadband households now own a smartphone. The smartphone markets in European nations, like in the U.S., have become mature and highly competitive.

Among broadband households in Western Europe, 76% in the U.K., 82% in Germany, 78% in France, and 90% in Spain own a smartphone.

Almost 40% of U.S. Smartphone Owners Use Voice Recognition Software

New mobile research from Parks Associates finds 39% of smartphone owners use some sort of voice recognition software such as Siri or Google Now, although the Apple platform is outpacing Android. 360 View Mobility and the App Economy reports more than one half of iPhone owners use voice recognition, as opposed to less than one third of Android phone owners.

Just 25% of T-Mobile Subscribers Prefer the Two-Year Mobile Contract Model

Just a quarter of T Mobile USA subscribers prefer the traditional mobile contract model of a two year contract with a subsidized handset, according to Parks Associates.

The research firm finds T-Mobile subscribers have embraced the company's new programs that do not require a service contract. Among T-Mobile subscribers planning to purchase a smartphone, 33% prefer to pay full price upfront, and 31% prefer to pay in monthly installments.
