Roku trumps Apple TV usage

The Roku internet TV streaming set-top box usage is outstripping Apple’s equivalent in the US, according to new research.

The number of US broadband households with a streaming video media device, such as a Roku or an Apple TV, has doubled since 2011, reaching 14% in 2013, says Parks Associates.

Among these households, 37% primarily use Roku compared to 24% that primarily use an Apple TV, according to a survey of 10,000 such homes conducted by Parks in Q1 this year.

TV still the main screen in UK

The report came as a US study by market research firm Parks Associates said that the percentage of smart TV owners in the US that connect their devices to the web had increased from 40% in 2010 to 56% today.
