Consumers to increase holiday CE spending by over 33% compared to 2011, with tablets overtaking laptops as hottest item

New Consumer Analytics research from Parks Associates indicates U.S. consumers plan to spend over 33% more on CE devices this holiday season compared to last year, with the total amount increasing from $793 per household in 2011 to $1,058 in 2012. Over 40% of U.K. broadband households interested in mobile security alerts from their service provider

New research from Parks Associates shows growing interest among U.K. broadband households for provider-deployed security services, with over one-third very interested in alerts on smartphones, PCs, and tablets for fire, water leaks, or open windows in their home. Thirty-five percent are very interested in an offering where appliances automatically adjust their settings to minimize electricity usage.

Western Europeans show strong preferences for PC as video platform, and free content, compared to U.S. consumers

Broadband penetration is above 70% in several Western European countries, and up to 30% of the broadband population in some countries prefer PCs over TVs for watching video, with a strong corresponding preference for free online video sources, according to research firm Parks Associates. In the United States, only 13% of broadband households prefer the PC over the TV as a video platform, compared to nearly 30% in Italy and 40% in Spain.

Tiered Mobile Data Plans Not Inhibiting App Downloads

New research from Parks Associates shows tiered data plans pushed by carriers such as AT&T and Verizon are not yet affecting consumer app use. According to Primary Data Digest: Consumer Apps 1H12, which surveyed U.S. broadband households in the third quarter of 2012:
