Parks: Smart Home Devices Driving Higher Demand for Tech Support, But Computer Problems are in Steady Decline

Consumer computer problems, as well as problems with entertainment devices are declining steadily year-over-year, dropping by more than 50% since 2014, according to a new report from Parks Associates. However, smart home devices are creating more problems in households, according to the report. It’s Playball for MLB and Facebook

A Bloomberg story on the agreement said that insiders put the price for the package at between $30 million and $35 million. It said that Facebook is broadening its sports lineup. Last year, it agreed with Fox Sports to stream the UEFA Champions League and with Univision to broadcast Mexican soccer. Parks Finds Smartwatch Adoption in 14% of U.S. Broadband Households

Smartwatches are increasingly popular while tablets may have peaked, according to research from Parks Associates. The “360 View: Mobility & The App Economy” report found that smartwatch adoption reached 14% among U.S. broadband households in the second quarter and that smartwatch adoption has been steady since 2016. The tablet category, however, may have reached its high water mark during the first quarter of last year with a penetration rate of 72%.

Parks: OTT Video Churn Holds Steady At Around 20 Percent

Roughly 1 in 5 U.S. broadband households (19%) have canceled an OTT video service in the past 12 months, according to new market research from Parks Associates. The rate of OTT video customer churn has remained stable overall during the past year, even as market leaders Netflix, Amazon and Hulu all have reduced their rates of customer churn, Parks highlights.

ABI: Pay-TV Provider OTT Will Fuel $7 Billion Live Linear OTT Market By 2021

Parks Associates just yesterday (Jan. 18) releaesed market research that lends further evidence of the challenges incumbent pay-TV providers face from competing OTT services.

Parks determined that the share of “antenna-only” TV households with broadband connections has reached 15 percent. Coincidentally, Parks found that the share of pay-TV subscriptions had declined and Internet-only video subscriptions had increased.

Parks: Antenna-Only TV Households Are 15% of Broadband Households

Parks also found a coincident decrease in pay-TV subscriptions and an increase in Internet-only video subscriptions in antenna-only households.

“Pay-TV subscriptions have dropped each year since 2014, falling to 81% of U.S. broadband households in Q3 2016,” said Brett Sappington, Senior Director of Research, Parks Associates, in a press release.

Parks Finds 71 Percent of Broadband Households With Wi-Fi or Apple AirPort

There are 30 percent more computing devices, as well as 45 percent more connected devices, on average in U.S. broadband households with Wi-Fi access as compared to those without it, according to new market research from Parks Associates. Parks found 71 percent of broadband households with Wi-Fi or Apple AirPort networks.
